The Advent of Buddhism (in Tibet) made us what we are, while deprived us what we could have been !!

"The Advent of Buddhism (in Tibet) made us what we are, while deprived us what we could have been" !!

explanation -
We could have remain a Power that we were (of the 7-8th century)...we could have survived the Mongol and the Han onslaughts and remained independent state today...I'm not saying that Buddhism per se ruined our Nation, but surely it played a major role in neglecting the state affairs, diverting focus n attention from nation building towards spirituality resulting in Choe-yon relationship (which it per se is not bad) which at good times was observed by the Mongols as genuine priest-patron relationship, but at bad times became a tool to abuse power (like what happened in relation with the succeeding Chinese empires -Ming and Qing dynasty) resulting into Chinese overlordship over Tibet (Lord-vassal relationship) which ultimately led us to the Chinese suzerainty over Tibet in the Imperial period. As a result of it, Tibet finally vanished from the international stage in the 1950, despite some efforts made by the Great 13th Dalai lama (Tibet’s first modern nationalist leader) in the intervening period (1912-1933) to modernize Tibet but without much success primarily due to strong resistance from the conservative religious faction(blinded by spirituality, if not blind faith).
Nevertheless this statement must not be construed negatively, Buddhism has played some positive roles which cannot be denied, but at the same time other side of the fact is also undeniable.
